Proposed Library Rule gets opposition

A rule being proposed by the Missouri Secretary of State would set certain guidelines and withhold funding from libraries that don’t have a policy in place related to age-appropriate materials and programs. Melinda Fries with the Lebanon Laclede County Library Foundation said the language in the proposed rule is ambiguous and limits access to certain books. She said it’s important to remember that a person under the age of 18 isn’t allowed to have a library card without the signature of a parent or guardian….

The proposed rule requires all libraries that receive funds to have a written collection development policy in place or they won’t get funding from the state librarian. The comment period for public support or opposition to the proposed rule ends on December 15th. Comments may be emailed to [email protected] with the rule number 15 CSR 30-200.015.
