As we’ve already had our first snow of the winter, Regional Radio KJEL reached out to The National Weather Service of Springfield on some tips for future snow storms. Steve Runnels, the Warning Coordination meteorologist from Springfield has tips for this winters snow storms.

In the event of a severe snow storm, Its important to have a survival bag packed and ready, with items like extra socks, gloves, water and snacks and a portable radio are all items useful in the event you are stranded in a snow storm. Another thing people don’t think about, is the gas in your car; keeping a full tank of gas will help keep you warm if you were to be stranded on the road in a snow storm.

The National Weather service stresses that you have a plan in the event of a severe snow storm. Be sure to pack your emergency bags now, before severe weather come into our area. Always check weather conditions before any traveling, on the National Weather Service website at WEATHER.GOV
