Polls are open to decide on Use Tax in Laclede County

The polls are open today with voters deciding on who will lead their cities and school districts for the next couple of years, and what issues they feel will best serve them. In Laclede County, voters will be deciding on a use tax on internet purchases which is equal to the current sales tax being charged locally. Small business owner Bert Ogle says that she feels internet business’s have a loophole where they escape paying sales tax that local merchants pay thus denying local communities much-needed revenue.
If approved by voters, the use tax will allow sales tax to be charged on internet sales from out of state vendors. The full ballot language is available at the polls and at the Laclede County Clerk’s Office. The polls will remain open until 7 pm. Regional Radio KJEL 103.7 FM will have live election coverage as the results come in.
