The Lebanon Special Road District and Phillipsburg Special Road District met in court today to finalize the 2022 tax levy agreements. There was a hearing for declaratory judgment after there was no action taken at the first court meeting. The road districts are trying to get a solution that would help them collect special road and bridge tax levies. These special road and bridge tax levies were passed in the April 5th, 2022 ballot. Lebanon Special Road District was for 20 cents, and Phillipsburg Special Road District was for 23 cents both not to exceed four years. Both of these passed taxes did not get sent to the Missouri State Auditor, and although the public passed the special tax levy they were not collected in 2022. The hearing today was to see if the county collector will be able to add a line item to the 2023 tax bills. Both causes were taken under advisement under Judge Matt Hamner. Hamner took no immediate action, stating that he needed to review the statutes cited by the attorneys. It is unknown when he will reach a decision.
