NWS Vulnerable Population Initiative
The National Weather Service Springfield Office has been working with Emergency Management and Emergency Planners to develop plans to get emergency information to the under-served or vulnerable population. Steve Runnels with the National Weather Service said as part of the Vulnerable Population Initiative they are encouraging county stakeholders to identify points of contact, work out how to mitigate impacts on the community and respond to those individuals’ needs.
Runnels said once they know who the points of contact are they can feed them the information they need in the correct format, especially if there is a language barrier…
If you are part of a group or organization and are a possible point of contact for the under-served population, Runnels requests that you contact your County Office of Emergency Management or the National Weather Service in Springfield.
