(Jefferson City)–The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports nine people died in traffic crashes during this year’s Thanksgiving holiday counting period.

Preliminary statistics show there were 404 crashes and 166 injuries. The patrol issued 94 D-W-I tickets and made 63 drug arrests.

Of the nine traffic crash fatalities that troopers investigated, five fatalities occurred in the St. Louis area.

Three drownings occurred on Saturday. All three took place in Southeast Missouri when motorists drove into water over the roadway.
