New flashing yellow arrow turn signal to be added at Route 5 and Elm Street in Lebanon

The Missouri Department of Transportation plans to install a flashing yellow arrow signal at the intersection of Route 5 and Elm Street. The new signals will help provide a smoother flow of traffic. The current signal only shows a solid green arrow, which stops opposing traffic. The new signal will add the flashing yellow light for Elm Street traffic which will allow drivers turning left onto Route 5 to also navigate the intersection when there is a safe gap in traffic. MoDOT says a traffic study at this intersection showed that the flashing yellow light would allow for more Elm Street drivers to pass through the intersection while maintaining adequate safety measures. Flashing yellow lights work in a similar way to ‘yield on green’ signals. Red means stop, as it always has. A solid yellow arrow indicates the light is about to turn solid red. A flashing yellow arrow means drivers may turn but must yield to pedestrians and oncoming traffic. A green arrow lets you know when you are clear to turn left and oncoming traffic has a red light. MoDOT crews will complete the signal upgrade on Thursday, October 15th. Work is scheduled to take place between 8:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. and could require occasional lane closures. MoDOT encourages drivers to avoid distractions, watch for workers on the road, slow down, and obey all traffic signs. This work is weather permitting and could be delayed.
