The Public is invited to attend an open house at the National Weather Service (NWS) office in Springfield, Missouri, from 9:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. on Saturday, September 16, 2023. The open house will showcase the products and services provided by the NWS to the people of southeast Kansas and the Missouri Ozarks. On hand will be numerous exhibits and presentations on hazardous weather preparedness; including information on the infamous May 22, 2011 Joplin Tornado and other historic severe storms such as the all too common fatalities and destruction associated with flash floods and low water crossings.

The National Weather Service would enjoy the opportunity to highlight its Decision Support Services (DSS) for community events and the DSS Packet (see https://www.weather.gov/media/sgf/DssPacket.pdf ) issued prior to high-impact weather events. Forecasts that ready citizens for action will also be highlighted with a look at the Enhanced Hazardous Weather Outlook and how the NWS produces the National Digital Forecast Database and how it gives the public the ability to retrieve hourly forecasts for a dozen weather elements out to seven days anywhere in the nation (see http://graphical.weather.gov/ ).

The National Weather Service office is located at 5805 West Highway EE near the Springfield-Branson National Airport. From the intersection of Division and West Bypass, take Highway EE (Division) west approximately 4 miles then take the second exit off the roundabout and our office will be on the right-hand side.
