National Forest Service Will Conduct Prescribed Burn in Paddy Creek Area Friday

The National Forest Service plans to conduct an 846 acre prescribed burn today. The location of the prescribed burn will be the east side of Paddy Creek Road on the northern end. Winds are expected to be blowing in from the south at elevated levels.
Trent Packer, Assistant Fire Chief of the Roby Fire department, posted online that smoke will travel toward the north into Fort Leonard Wood from the prescribed burn. He said the Forest Service does a good job at “getting the air warm enough to make the smoke rise so it does not affect anyone,” adding, “The Forest Service is trained and equipped to conduct prescribed burns in elevated fire conditions.”
However, he cautions individuals not to do any outdoor burning today, saying, “I would not recommend individuals going out and conducting one yet. Saturday is looking like a good day for the community to burn.”
