A report of a suspicious vehicle parked near North Highway 7 near Climax Springs has led to multiple charges against a man from Cross Timbers. When deputies approached the car on Monday they found Charles Thomas Schafer asleep, with a handgun and multiple magazines beside him. Eventually, officers were able to rouse him and speak with him. Schafer was found to be in possession of a pill bottle that contained a substance that tested positive as methamphetamine. In addition, there were multiple firearms in the vehicle with Schafer, who is a convicted felon. Schafer is charged with 5 counts of unlawful possession of a firearm and is being held without bond. Schafer also had an outstanding warrant for his arrest.
