Multi-vehicle accident near exit 159 west-bound on I-44 ties up traffic
AN ACCIDENT ON WESTBOUND I-44 THIS MORNING NEAR EXIT 159 MADE HISTORIC ROUTE 66 IN DOWNTOWN WAYNESVILLE THE NEW WESTBOUND I-44. THE ACCIDENT APPARENTLY HAD BOTH THE WESTBOUND DRIVING AND PASSING LANE BLOCKED NEAR THE ROUBIDOUX RIVER BRIDGE ON THE INTERSTATE AND TRAFFIC IS BEING RE-ROUTED THRU WAYNESVILLE.
Multiple injuries were reported. Reports say at least one major injury with a person trapped inside a vehicle suffering from head injuries.
Numerous area first responders including, the Waynesville Rural Fire Protection District, St. Robert City Fire and Rescue, and Fort Leonard Wood Fire Department were called to the scene, along with Pulaski County Ambulance District personnel.
There were eye witness accounts of multiple semi-trailers rolled over, possibly three to four.
THE ACCIDENT WAS REPORTED JUST BEFORE 1 AM THIS MORNING. MOTORISTS WHO USED HISTORIC ROUTE 66 IN WAYNESVILLE AND ICHORD AVE. ENCOUNTERED CONGESTION AS THEY ATTEMPTED TO ACCESS THE WEST GATE TO FT. WOOD.
