More Funding Could Come For Pre-K

More state funding could be headed to Missouri preschools to expand access to low-income children ages 3 to 5. The Missouri House of Representatives has passed today a proposal that would let families with children who qualify for free or reduced priced lunch voluntarily decide if they want to access preschool. St. Joseph Republican Brenda Shields is sponsoring the bill that could let an additional 17-thousand Missouri children access a pre-K program.

Representative Hannah Kelly, of southern Missouri’s Mountain Grove, says the proposal, with a price tag between 17 million and 181 million dollars annually, is too expensive.
