Missouri State Highway Patrol readies for July Fourth holiday

(Jefferson City)–The Fourth of July holiday travel period is less than two weeks away. The official accident counting period for the holidays will be from 6 p-m Thursday, July 2nd, to 11:59 Sunday, July 6th. Last year, 15 people were killed over the Fourth of July holiday period on state roadways, and 457 were injured. There were 1,109 traffic crashes during that period of time. The state, during the last Fourth of July’s holiday period, recorded nine boating crashes, which included four injuries and zero fatalities. Three people drowned during the holiday period last year.
The Highway Patrol will be participating in Operation C.A.R.E and Operation Dry Water again this year.
