Military leaders apparently are concerned about how the rank-and-file is reacting to the rapid fall of the government to the Taliban in Afghanistan. This has prompted Army Chief of Staff, General James C. McConville, to post a letter intended to boost morale among the troops. General McConville says, “As we all reflect on the events of this past week in Afghanistan, I want you to know how much I appreciate your service and your sacrifice and I could not be more proud of what you have accomplished. We have Soldiers presently supporting combatant commanders around the world and I know that you will continue to serve with honor and valor when called on.” He went on the say, “In the next few days and weeks, I’d ask that you check in your teammates as well as our Soldiers or Live, who may be struggling with the unfolding events.”
