Mercy provides medical supplies and cash to aid Ukrainian refugees
Mercy Hospital Springfield has donated $106,000 worth of medical supplies and an additional $25,000 in cash to Convoy of Hope to aid Ukrainian refugees.
The idea started with Alex Limonchenko, a Mercy respiratory therapist. Originally from Ukraine, Limonchenko came to the United States when he was 18. While he is now an American citizen, his sister is still in the war-torn country, helping refugees get to safety from her church in central Ukraine.
He contacted local Mercy leaders, who reached out to Mercy’s strategic supply chain. They worked with Convoy of Hope on identifying the most-needed medical and surgical supplies.
On Friday, April 1, Limonchenko gathered with his family, pastors from his church, and Mercy leaders to watch as the 13 pallets of supplies were loaded on to a Convoy of Hope truck. He said, “I cannot bear arms, but I can lift my hands in prayer to bring awareness. It came together amazingly.”
