Mental health advocate and suicide prevention educator David Woods Bartley is visiting Fort Leonard Wood to talk to soldiers about mental wellness and suicide prevention.
Bartley will be speaking to military-only groups at 10 o clock Wednesday morning, at 12:30, and at 2:30 at the Main Post Chapel, presenting a powerful story of resilience–his journey from what he calls mental “hellness” to mental wellness. Through stories, each having a particular teaching point, he will explain the thoughts, feelings, battles, and incredible victories that can happen in a fight with suicide. Rather than glorifying suicide, the goal will be to give participants the chance to understand suicide from a different perspective.
A session for civilians will be held this morning at 8 o’clock. A community session, open to Fort Leonard Wood and Neighboring Communities on “The why of suicide and the how of hope” will be presented from 7 to 8:30 this evening. There will be another military-only session tomorrow morning at 8 o’clock.
