Mary Rowena Dye
Mary was born to Roy and Glenn Farmer on October 30, 1927, and departed this life on September 21, 2024. She was united in marriage to Hartle Patterson in December of 1946. To this union, four children were born. Hartle passed away in 1977. She later married Roy Dye. They lived in Marshfield a number of years before moving to Fair Grove. They enjoyed going to Bennett Springs in their small camper to fish and visit with friends.
She worked as a waitress a number of years but decided to go to nursing school around the age of 40. She was proud to become an LPN. She worked in the hospital for a period of time then became a clinical nurse for Dr. Cheek. She later went to work with Regina as Icenhower Grocery. She enjoyed stocking, cleaning, and doing some bookkeeping until 2007 when the store was sold. Later she worked at Premier Automotive doing part-time bookkeeping. Mary decided at the age of 83 that it was time to retire.
She enjoyed reading and working on puzzles until her stroke in 2019, which stole her ability to enjoy those activities. Later she enjoyed listening to audiobooks to help pass the time. She worked hard her whole life taking care of family and her home. She loved to mow and operated a zero-turn mover until a year ago. She was very active and independent and liked taking care of everything herself. The last few months were very difficult for her because she just didn’t understand why the Lord didn’t just take her to her heavenly home.
Mary was saved as a teenager and had been a member of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church since the early 1960’s.
She is survived by three daughters, Regina Icenhower and husband Richard, Carol Hill and husband Ron, Kim Cresap and husband Bobby, one son, Gary Patterson and wife Alice, nine grandsons, Ryan, Ricky, and Rodrick Icenhower, Eric and Jason Wells, Shawn and Kevin Patterson, Justin and Jarett Shuey, and 18 great grandchildren.
She will be greatly missed by her family but take comfort that she is no longer in pain and in the presence of her Lord and Savior.
In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to St, Jude’s, Rescue One, or the Humane Society.
