It didn’t take long for former Houston Roughnecks quarterback P.J. Walker to find a new NFL home with the Carolina Panthers, but he wasn’t the only XFL signal caller to be picked up on Monday. According to his agent, Kenny Zuckerman, former St. Louis BattleHawks quarterback Jordan Ta’amu has agreed to terms with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Ta’amu led the BattleHawks to a 3-2 record and finished the shortened inaugural season third in passing with 1,050 yards, five touchdowns and two interceptions. Ta’amu established himself as one of the XFL’s best right from season opener, as he led the BattleHawks to a 15-9 victory over the Dallas Renegades — who were the early favorites to win the league. Ta’amu completed 74 percent of his passes for 209 yards and one touchdown in the victory, and also rushed nine times for a total of 77 yards. It was a performance that made him a finalist for the XFL’s first “Star of the Week” award.

The Ole Miss product broke the all-time school record for 400-yard passing games during his time in Oxford, and finished his career ranking sixth all-time in program history with 5,600 passing yards.

Major League Baseball, like many sports leagues around the world, has been shut down indefinitely because of the growing threat that is the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). Spring training has been suspended and Opening Day has been pushed back to at least mid-May, and that remains subject to change as the situation develops.

To help those fighting the pandemic, and also to support local business, Pittsburgh Pirates players arranged to have 400 pizzas and 100 trays of pasta delivered to Allegheny General Hospital workers on Monday, according to Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Here are the details:

On Monday, (Pirates players), on their own, put a plan into action, buying lunch from two local pizza shops – Slice on Broadway at PNC Park and Pizzeria Davide in the Strip District – for employees at Allegheny General Hospital.

Slice will deliver 300 pizzas to AGH in waves on Monday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Pizzeria Davide doesn’t deliver, so Pirates employees will transport 100 pizzas and 10 trays of pasta to the same place.

“We thought this was a way to help,” Pirates union representative James Taillon told MLB.com’s Adam Berry. “Two birds with one stone. We can help local restaurants. We can help the hospitals and the workers and show our appreciation,

A Bruce Weber disciple is leaving the Kansas State bench to take over his own program. Southeast Missouri State announced Brad Korn as its next coach on Monday after the school parted ways with Rick Ray following a 7-24 season.

Korn just wrapped up his fourth season as an assistant coach at Kansas State under Weber. He played for Weber at Southern Illinois before starting his coaching career as an assistant at Southern Illinois, where he remained from 2004 to 2012.

The 38-year-old Illinois native faces a challenge at Southeast Missouri, which has finished with a losing record in six consecutive seasons. Ray spent five seasons leading the Redhawks following his dismissal from Mississippi State in 2015. After winning just five total games in Ray’s first season, Southeast Missouri rebounded to go 9-7 in Ohio Valley Conference play during the 2016-17 season. But the team won a total of just eight league games over the last two seasons.

Korn’s hiring was the first domino to fall on the coaching carousel this week. Alcorn State followed when it announced it will not renew Montez Robinson’s contract for a sixth year.
