There is an old saying, “free throws don’t win games, but they lose all the close ones. Poplar Bluff is a quality opponent. They are well coached and put extreme pressure on the guards. Our team has made huge strides on both ends of the court since we played them 10 days ago. I like our team. We will continue to improve basketball ability. Missouri men’s basketball was ranked for the third straight week in the Associated Press’ Top 25 weekly poll on Monday, coming in at No. 12.

That’s two spots ahead of where the Tigers were last week at No. 14 after they won their only game during that stretch by one point over Bradley.

MU is 6-0 on the season and has two Top 25 wins, a true road victory over Wichita State, wins over two NCAA tournament teams from last season and a blowout over Oral Roberts in its season opener.

The Tigers begin Southeastern Conference play on Wednesday against Tennessee at Mizzou Arena. The Volunteers were the only other league team ranked in this week’s poll at No. 7.

The Milwaukee Bucks absolutely shellacked the Miami Heat Tuesday in a rematch of last season’s Eastern Conference finals, breaking the record for most 3-pointers made by a team in a single game with 29. While the Heat took the series to make the NBA Finals earlier this year, it was the Bucks that took the new season’s rematch with a dominant 144-97 victory.

The record itself was broken with just over six minutes left in the game. Milwaukee’s second-round pick, Sam Merrill, brought the ball up the court and decided to shoot from the left corner of the arc to make the team’s 28th 3-pointer.

Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger’s evening was cut short in the Alamo Bowl. Now the question is whether his collegiate career is over, too.

The senior did not suit up for the second half of Tuesday’s 55-23 rout over Colorado because of a shoulder injury he suffered in the first half. Ehlinger was seen in street clothes and a sling after halftime. Though Ehlinger did take a couple of sacks, he had a solid first half with 160 yards passing and a touchdown.

The attention now turns to Ehlinger’s future. Because of the NCAA’s decision to grant fall sport athletes an extra year of eligibility due to COVID-19, it’s possible Ehlinger could return to Texas in 2021.

No. 21 Oklahoma State survived a late rally from No. 18 Miami (FL) to take a 37-34 win in the Cheez-It Bowl at Camping World Stadium in Orlando on Tuesday night. Hurricanes receiver Michael Redding was stopped 3 yards shy of the sticks on fourth-and-8 with 1:36 to play to essentially end a wild game between the Big 12 and ACC foes.

The 2020 Music City Bowl between No. 15 Iowa and Missouri has been canceled after Missouri announced Sunday that it was withdrawing from the game due to a “significant increase” in COVID-19 cases within the program. The game was scheduled for Wednesday at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee, and finding a replacement team for the Tigers was not considered on such short notice.

“I want to thank the hard work of those involved in helping plan this year’s bowl, which we were prepared to host this week,” Music City Bowl president Scott Ramsey said in a statement. “Unfortunately, Missouri’s high positive COVID-19 numbers have resulted in the cancelation of this game. We look forward to planning for 2021.”

A cancellation means Iowa’s season is over after the Hawkeyes posted a 6-2 record by winning their final six games following two losses by a combined four points to begin the season. Missouri finishes the season 5-5 after losing its final two games under first-year coach Elijah Drinkwitz.
