Maries County Sheriff Chris Heitman is forming a posse of community volunteers

Maries County Sheriff Chris Heitman is forming a posse of community volunteers to protect the life or property of citizens during times of civil unrest or emergency need.
The posse’s primary goals will be to train and be prepared to serve the Sheriff in order to defend county citizens, to be a group of positive role models to the county’s youth, to be a positive community policing group bridging any gaps between law enforcement and citizens, and to increase the number of trained citizens on the streets and in businesses. Plans include having a UTV/ATV search and rescue division as well as a horseback mounted division. An informational meeting will be held Thursday evening, May 18th, at 6:30, in the Maries County Courthouse in Vienna. Posse applications may be picked up at the informational meeting, or at the Sheriff’s office. To receive an application, e-mail either [email protected], or [email protected]. Before anyone can join the posse, they must apply, pass a background check, meet the requirements, and be accepted.
