Maries County Domestic Violence Caught On Video
The Maries County Sheriffs Department has shared a domestic violence incident that was caught on video via Facebook. On the afternoon of March 12th, Deputy Shannon Fannon was dispatched to a 911 call from a passing motorist of a Domestic Disturbance in progress at the intersection of Highway 63 and MCR 302. Upon arriving on the scene Deputy Fannon found both parties had already left. Approximately an hour later Deputy Fannon was contacted by the victim who wanted to make a report of the incident.
During the interview process, the victim described an attack made by her ex-boyfriend, William Alexander of Vienna, Missouri. After having a verbal altercation on the phone, Alexander convinced the victim to pull over at the intersection and talk, promising to remain calm.
The victim had a dash camera that recorded the entire incident with both video and audio. Alexander grabbed the clothing of the victim, pulled her into his car, and screamed in her face. After she broke free and fled to her vehicle, Alexander forced his arm in through a partially open window, rolled down the window, grabbed her hair, and punched her in the head multiple times after saying “We’re done?” After the assault, Alexander unlocked the car doors, hugged their son, and plead with the victim to forgive him saying he was sorry and would seek help for his anger. After taking the victim’s report, Deputy Fannon, Deputy Tiffany Johnson, and Chief Deputy Scott John traveled to the Alexander residence just outside of Vienna where he was arrested for Domestic Violence 3rd Degree.
The Maries County Sheriff’s Department released the images and video of the incident with the blessing of the victim. “I’m not letting this define me. If it makes one person aware and one woman get out of a bad situation”
The Maries County Sheriffs’ Office also shared the following statistics from The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence:
1 in 4 women and 1 in 9 men will experience severe intimate partner physical violence, intimate partner contact sexual violence, and/or intimate partner stalking with impacts such as injury, fearfulness, post-traumatic stress disorder, use of victim services, contraction of sexually transmitted diseases, and more.
The Maries County Sheriffs’ office also shared the local resources available to those suffering from Domestic Violence Rape and Abuse Crisis Services of Jefferson City, The Russell House of Rolla, and encouraged those who know someone in an abusive relationship to contact local law enforcement.
