Maries County Covid scam

(Vienna)–The Maries County Sheriff’s Department reports that a new Covid-19 phone scam apparently is being conducted in that county. An individual reports that the scam phone call informs you that you have been in direct contact with someone who has tested positive for Covid-19. The caller then states they will send you an emergency test kit and packaging for the lab testing for a one time fee of $50. They then state if you do not get the test you will be fined. According to Sheriff Chris Heitman, none of this is true. The County Health Department will contact a person and request that he or she self-quarantines. Testing will be done if Covid-19 symptoms appear and the testing will be done free of charge. Heitman advises individuals to never pay a fee or fine by telephone that they aren’t 100% sure about.
