Life saving Mammograms free in Lebanon
Breast cancer is a disease in which cells in the breast grow out of control, and it can begin in different parts of the breast. Breast cancer can spread outside the breast through blood vessels and lymph vessels. When breast cancer spreads to other parts of the body, it is said to have metastasized. According to the CDC, most breast cancers are found in women who are 50 years old or older. More than 42-thousand women died of breast cancer in 2018, and there’s a strong chance many could have been saved by early detection through a mammogram. Susan Massey with Mercy Hospital Lebanon says a screening mammogram is a good first step, and it only takes about 20 minutes..
Massey said that with the new 3-D mammogram the process is uncomfortable but not as painful as earlier x-ray technology. The results of the mammogram is shared with your primary care physician, who will then discuss the results with you. Due to a partnership between Mercy and the Breast Cancer Foundation of the Ozarks, on April 6th, any woman who is uninsured or underinsured can get a free mammogram at Mercy Hospital Lebanon.
