Springfield police arrested a suspect Thursday, in the cites 17th homicide of the year breaking the previous record. 24-year-old Lebanon resident Nicholas Jay Barnes was arrested and charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action in connection with the murder earlier this week of 39-year-old Shad Brown of Springfield. Barnes was upset that Brown was dating an ex-girlfriend of Barnes. The U-Haul truck used in the event was located at the Red Fox Motel in Lebanon. Barnes was taken into custody at the Law office of Wampler and Passanise in Springfield. Barnes is currently being held in the Greene County Jail in Springfield, with no bond set.
