Law Would Raise Legal Marriage Age In Missouri

Missouri law allows 16- and 17-year-olds to get married with a parent’s permission, but a Senate bill could change this. Scott City Republican Senator Holly Thompson Rehder is proposing to ban marriages for anyone under 18, without exceptions. She says the divorce rate is “incredibly high” among couples who got married when they were children.

The Missouri Senate could debate the bill at any time.
