Laclede County has now quadrupled the amount of new COVID cases reported in June, as were reported during the entire month of May. A number of factors are playing into the rapid surge in cases, both in Laclede County and across rural Missouri. The state of Missouri reported 648 new cases on Friday and is now just short of 522-thousand total cases. 9,254 Missourians have died from the COVID virus. Over 603-thousand U-S residents have died from COVID over the course of the pandemic. According to data from the C-D-C, of the 18-thousand Americans that died from COVID during the month of May, 99.2 percent of those who died were unvaccinated. Only point 8 percent of the deaths were in fully vaccinated individuals. Of the 853-thousand COVID hospitalizations in May, less than 1,200 of those were in fully vaccinated individuals, which translates to point 1 percent. The C-D-C says over 99 percent of COVID hospitalizations and deaths are now entirely preventable.
