We have now crossed into the third year of the COVID pandemic worldwide, and the number of new cases is setting record highs in many parts of the country. Laclede County Health Department Administrator, Charla Baker, says it has been a challenging time. She says one of the biggest challenges we are facing in Laclede County is a low vaccination rate. Baker says she never would have dreamed that her department would have encountered such resistance from county residents to a life-saving vaccine. She also says she wouldn’t have expected so many county residents to deny that COVID is what could be making them ill.

Baker says, with the recent court rulings, they are incredibly limited in what they can do to help fight the pandemic.

Baker says, nearly two years into the pandemic, they are still having to fight misinformation about the virus and the vaccine on a nearly daily basis.
