Tommy Edman hit two home runs as the Cardinals blanked Chicago.

Edmundo Sosa also drove in a pair of runs for the Cardinals. John Gant pitched five scoreless innings for St. Louis.
Gant with the win improves to 4-3…He allowed five hits with three walks and three strikeouts….The Cards bullpen followed with four innings of scoreless, one hit relief….Nick Madrigal had three hits for the White Sox.
Cards manager Mike Shildt was ejected in the middle of the bottom of the 7th inning after reliever Giovanny Gallegos was asked to remove his cap because of a substance on his cap. He indicated there’s plenty of pitchers pushing the rules on illegal substances over the line.

The Redbirds have flown west to Phoenix where they’ll meet the Arizona Diamondbacks in the first of a 4-game series tonight at 8:40..Pre-game coverage will start at 7:45 on KJEL…

Manuel Margot’s walkoff single in the 10th inning was the difference in the Rays’ win over Kansas City. Tampa Bay has now won twelve of its past 13 games. Tyler Glasnow finished with 11 strikeouts in eight scoreless innings and Royals starter Mike Minor recorded nine strikeouts and allowed one earned run in five frames.
Mike Zunino hit an RBI single in the fourth for the Rays. Andrew Benintendi got the Royals on the board with a solo shot in the ninth.

The Royals and Tampa Bay conclude the 3-game series this afternoon at 2:10…
