SOFTBALL-

For the first time since 2016 and the 11th time overall, Mizzou Softball is hosting an NCAA Regional in Columbia. Coach Larissa Anderson’s Tigers, 38-15 overall and 15-9 in the Southeastern Conference, received the 8th overall seed in the 2021 NCAA Tournament when pairings were announced Sunday evening.

The Columbia Regional will host Iowa State, Northern Iowa and UIC as the second, third and fourth seeds, respectively. Mizzou will open the tournament against UIC on Friday, May 21 at 3:30 p.m. at Mizzou Softball Stadium, following the region’s first game between Iowa State and Northern Iowa at 1 p.m.
Mizzou lost 9-8 to Iowa State early in the season at a tournament in Boca Raton Florida and followed up with a 3-2 win in Columbia mid-season.

Ivan Castillo’s RBI-single capped a four-run fourth inning as the Padres completed a 3-game sweep at Petco Park. Trent Grisham doubled in a run in the fifth for the Friars, who finished off the three-game sweep. Dinelson Lamet picked up the win and Mark Melancon notched his 14th save. Cards manager Mike Shildt watched the pitching staff incur control problems throughout the entire weekend.

Nolan Arenado smacked a two-run homer in the first inning for St. Louis, which wrapped up its road trip 2-and-4. Kwang Hyun Kim permitted four runs, just one earned, in three-and-a-third frames to suffer his first loss. The Cards are back home at Busch Stadium tomorrow night to host Pittsburgh…Pre-game airs at 5:50 on KJEL..

Jose Abreu scored the controversial game-winning run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the ninth as Chicago rallied to edge Kansas City and split the four game series.. Royals catcher Cam Gallagher thought he had the tag applied in time.

Yoan Moncada tied the game with a single in the ninth. . Matt Foster picked up the win for the White Sox, who have won eight of 10. Whit Merrifield and Carlos Santana drove in runs in the seventh for the Royals. Wade Davis took the loss for Kansas City, which has lost 13 of 15. After Monday off, KC returns home to host MIlwaukee tomorrow night at 7:10..
