The Big 12 Conference could see the value of its television deal cut in half once Texas and Oklahoma bolt for the Southeastern Conference, Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby said at a hearing of Texas lawmakers. A committee of Texas senators heard testimony from university leaders at Baylor, TCU and Texas Tech on the monetary and academic losses conference realignment would mean for the Big 12 and its members once Texas and Oklahoma leave for the SEC in 2025.

University of Texas at Austin President Jay Hartzell testified that the path to making the switch became clear “into the summer,” and that UT told Bowlsby that in a call following news of the move. Hartzell said the school would “continue to honor all agreements.”

Bowlsby has been highly critical of both Texas and Oklahoma, accusing them of plotting for months to leave the 10-member league for the powerful SEC. He also accused ESPN of working behind the scenes to gut the Big 12……

Hartzell was asked whether the school had included ESPN in its conversations about moving to the SEC and said: “Absolutely, categorically, no.”

Baylor athletic director Mack Rhoades, FORMERLLY THE MIZZOU A.D., said his school’s athletic budget is 48% of Texas’, was even harsher in his criticism of the Longhorns during testimony.

Texas lawmakers dug into the future of the Big 12 without the Sooners and Longhorns. Bowlsby said the TV contract value would take a 50% hit.

The Big 12 distributed $345 million to its 10 members this year ($34.5 million apiece), down from the previous year because of the pandemic. Most of that revenue comes from the Big 12’s TV deals, including ESPN. The SEC is positioned to distribute as much as $70 million annually to its members in coming years…ADDING TEXAS AND OKLAHOMA TO THE FOLD WILL INCREASE THE MONEY TO THE S.E.C. MEMBERS EACH YEAR….cbs is the sec’s network sugar daddy…..

and who said it’s not about money?

ISAAC BRUCE is a former American football wide receiver in the National Football League and a member of the 2020 Pro Football Hall of Fame class AND WILL BE ENSHRINED THIS YEAR IN CANTON…
…..drafted by the Los Angeles Rams in the second round of the 1994 NFL Draft after playing college football for the University of Memphis. He is currently the athletic director of the University of Fort Lauderdale, a Christian college with HBCU roots.

An All-Pro and four-time Pro Bowl selection, Bruce amassed 15,208 receiving yards in his career (fifth all-time). He played the first 14 years with the Rams and won a Super Bowl ring with the team in Super Bowl XXXIV over the Tennessee Titans, where he scored the game winning touchdown. He also played for the San Francisco 49ers. During his time with the Rams, he was the leading wide receiver of “The Greatest Show on Turf”. In 2020, Bruce was elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Isaac Bruce would love to see “The Greatest Show on Turf”, the name of the rams offence when they were in st. louis, playing with today’s NFL rules. No head-hunting safeties. No handsy cornerbacks. No limits to what the St. Louis Rams’ offense could do. “We’d probably have to call off the dogs,” Bruce said.
