(Waynesville)–When Waynesville School District administrators and staff hold their annual convocation later this month, they will have a special guest who should be known to many sports fans in this area.
Here’s Waynesville School Superintendent, Dr. Brian Henry, to tell us who that is.

stoutland student athletes are gearing up for a monday, august 9th start to practice, but first for the softball team, it’s clean up day at the stoutland softball diamond, and that takes place this sunday, august 8th…
there’s a baseball clean up day in the works as well, and that info will be released soon…

as far as practice goes, the stoutland baseball team will start practice late in the evening on monday, august 9th.
their first day practice will run from 8-10pm and take place under the lights…..
then late afternoon into evening practices for the rest of the week…the baseball tigers will have a jamoroee with macks creek on the 20th…..

the softball lady tigers at stoutland will practice from 6:30-8:30 august 9th thru the 20th, then on the 21st, the last saturday before the start of school, have their jamboree with macks creek…

cross country for the high schoolers will start monday and run thru the 13th from 8-9 am…
jr. high cross country will join the high school teams on the 17th and run from 7:30-8:30….

there will be a mandatory parent/athlete meeting on august 19th at 5:45 in the high school gym…….

In order to comply with social distancing at Mercy: you will check in, be screened, give them your cell phone number and return to your vehicle or parking lot to wait until they call you to come in for your physical.
All athletes must have a physical dated after Feb. 1, 2021, on file at the athletic office before the first day of practice. Middle school athletes should turn their physical forms into the nurse at the middle school. A parent signature will be needed on the physical form or a parent must be present for the exam.

the miners open their season on thursday, sept. 2nd at rapid city south dakota to meet the south dakota mines. the last time the two met was back in 2012, a 66-17 triumph for s&t….
their home opener is sept. 11th against arkansas baptist at jackling field at allgood-bailey stadium for a 1pm kickoff….

Salvador Perez hit a two-run homer and the Kansas City Royals went deep four times to beat the Chicago White Sox 9-1 on Wednesday night. Kansas City ended a four-game losing streak, while the A.L. Central-leading White Sox lost for the eighth time in 13 games. Perez launched his 27th homer in the third, tying a career high previously accomplished in 2017 and 2018.

it’s still the usa, china and russia in the medal count as of last night, our time, the usa had 85 medals, to include 27 gold, 34 silver and 24 bronze…
china has 73 overall medals and still leads the gold count with 33.
russia has 55 overall, 15 gold….great britan has moved into 4th with 49, japan is 5th with 41.

The United States women’s national team beat Australia 4-3 to win the Olympic bronze-medal match Thursday, with Megan Rapinoe and Carli Lloyd both scoring braces, that’s two goals each…

It was a record-breaking evening for Lloyd, who became the USWNT’s top scorer in Olympics history with 10 goals and its second-most-capped player of all time, after Kristine Lilly, with 312 appearances.

Sam Kerr also became the Matildas’ all-time top scorer with her first-half strike, while Caitlin Foord added a second for Australia.
