Waynesville High School senior Alejandro Malavé, competed at the Missouri State Cross Country championship Friday morning and set a new school record of 16.14, placing 41st in the state Cross Country race, leaving just one minute and 17 seconds between himself and first place. The previous school record was 16:24, set in 2010 by Miles Migliara.

Malavé beat the old record by 10 seconds.

“He has been working towards this for years, consistently putting in the work. It was amazing to see it pay off for him today and I could not be prouder of the runner and person that Alejandro is,” said Cross Country Coach Nicole Jarman.
