Kearney woman being held in Texas County stabbing

Shortly after 3 a.m. Thursday (March 28th, 2024), Texas County 911 Dispatch received a report of a male stabbing victim being transported to Texas County Memorial Hospital by private vehicle. Deputies responded to the hospital, and spoke with a witness who stated that a female had stabbed the man at a residence on Highway 17 in the Houston area. After further investigation, deputies responded to the residence and arrested 35-year-old Kearney resident, Heather M. Shelton. A knife, believed to have been used to stab the victim, was also located at the residence. Shelton was transported to the hospital, and then transported to the Texas County Jail. Shelton was charged on Thursday with 1st-Degree Assault, Armed Criminal Action, and Tampering With Evidence In A Felony Prosecution. Shelton is being held in the Texas County Jail without bond.
