June has been an unusually deadly month for traffic fatalities in the Troop I area of the Missouri Highway Patrol. A Cuba motorist became the latest fatality Tuesday on eastbound I-44 at the 207.8-mile marker near Cuba. According to the patrol, 33-year-old Justin R. Studdard was killed when his 2006 Ford Ranger left the roadway, struck an embankment, overturned, and came to rest on its side. Studdard was partly ejected from the truck. He was flown to Mercy Hospital in St. Louis for treatment but pronounced dead ten hours later. His death makes the 9th highway fatality for June. Almost half of 2022’s Troop I’s 20 highway deaths have occurred this month. 5 of those deaths have come within the last week to week-and-a-half.
