Judge Acquits Former Sheriff and Deputy on Several Charges, Trial Moves On
25th Circuit Judge John Beger acquitted former Texas County Sheriff James Sigman and his former chief deputy, Jennifer Tomaszewski, on several charges Wednesday. However, the bench trial will continue today on several other charges.
The pair faced multiple felony and misdemeanor charges ranging from endangering the welfare of a child to fraud to unlawful use of a weapon. Judge Beger said the state failed to make their case on several of the charges and dismissed them.
Sigman will remain on trial for a felony forgery charge. Tomaszewski on charges of endangering a child and felony forgery. Beger said two other charges, robbery and impersonating an officer, are under consideration for dismissal as well and could rule on that today. The trial of the couple was moved to Pulaski County from Texas County on a change of venue.
