After five weeks on the picket lines, more than ten-thousand Deere and Company workers will return to the assembly lines after voting to accept a six-year contract. The Quad City Times reports that weeks after rejecting a virtually similar agreement from the company, UAW members that had gone on strike at a dozen plants nationwide voted to accept a revised deal by an over three-to-two margin. Deere CEO John May said in a news release that workers and the company had a “bright” future, adding that he was pleased that, quote: “our highly skilled employees are back to work building and supporting the industry-leading products which make our customers more profitable and sustainable.” In a separate statement, UAW president Ray Curry said that Deere workers did not just unite themselves, but “seemed to unite the nation in a struggle for fairness in the workplace,” adding that the union could not be more proud of their members and families. Depending on their location, employees may resume their jobs as early as this (Thursday) evening.
