John David Collins was born in Corpus Christi, Texas on June 24, 1958, and passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home in Louisburg, Missouri on November 13, 2024.

Anyone who knew David, or Dave, or Big Dave, to his family and friends, knew he was a skilled hunter and fisherman. Those passions started with lessons from his dad when he was just a little gut. There was no place he would rather be than in the woods or on the water.

A large part of his work history was in carpentry. He paid attention to details and insisted that things be done right, much to the irritation of those under his supervision. In general, he had little tolerance for things done “half-a**ed”, as he would say. On top of carpentry, he was a can-do kind of guy. If he didn’t know how to get something done or needed to get creative to fix a problem, he would “just figure it out”.

By in large David kept to himself. Looking at this wall of a man, he could seem intimidating, frumpy, and often ornery and yet children were drawn to him. Quite the paradox. If you hung around for a bit you would notice a slight half grin or chuckle. Dave had a quick whit and often found laughter in the simple things of life. You would find that Dave was honest. What you saw is what you got! There was no pretense or trying to appear to be someone or something other than who he was. He carried a quiet wisdom and would just tell you like it was if it was for your benefit. Dave, at his core, was generous and kind. He would show up if you needed him, give you the proverbial “shirt off his back” and fight with and or for you if the circumstances called for it. Along life’s journey, David found “family” and loved those he left deeply.

The past two years were full of challenges for Dave including an amputation of a leg, a couple of near-death health crisis, rehabbing and relearning how to do things for himself. Part of his “rehab” was spent around pool tables, a game he enjoyed and was always trying to improve. Learning how to balance and maneuver around that pool table was no small goal. He fought like a warrior and regained health and ultimately made it back to a successful deer hunting this season. A special thank you to Ashley and Dylan for their hospitality, care, and love for Dave, particularly in those months following his surgery. You were and are a treasure to David and his family.

John David Collins was a gift on this planet, He is very loved and will be missed.
