(Waynesville)–A disturbance Sunday afternoon at 4:05 in the Pulaski County Jail in Waynesville has led to additional charges against an inmate there. Upon the arrival of the Sheriff’s Deputies to a secured area of the facility, Shawn Burroughs was reportedly being restrained in a cell after assaulting two Correctional Officers. The inmate was secured in handcuffs and extracted out of the cell without further incident. According to the Sheriff’s Department, it was determined through further investigation that Burroughs was causing a disturbance within his assigned cell. Correctional Officers responded, giving verbal commands to Burroughs, who did not comply with directives given by Officers. When Officers attempted to regain control of the situation, Burroughs became aggressive and assaulted Correctional Officers by striking them with a closed fist and kicking them. Burroughs was able to be restrained within the cell by these two Correctional Officers until further Deputies arrived to assist. On Monday, Associate Circuit Judge Colin Long issued 2 warrants charging Shawn Burroughs with Assault of a Special Victim in the third degree. The Correctional Officers were evaluated by medical, with reported injuries. Burroughs was not reported to be injured. Burroughs was already being held in the Pulaski County Jail on charges of Domestic Assault 2nd Degree.
