It’s Fire Prevention Week, do you have an escape plan?

This week is Fire Prevention Week and planning an escape from a fire in your home, is an essential measure to protect you and your family from injury. Your escape plan needs to include a map, a safe meeting place for everyone to evacuate to, and real life drills at home are always a good idea to stay prepared. Lebanon Fire Chief Sam Schneider said it’s important to educate young children on an escape plan to get out during a fire.
If you do have a fire in your home, get out as quick as possible and call 9-1-1; If others are home, make noise so they become aware of the fire also. Once you exit, do not go back inside.
Another key piece of home fire safety is make sure you have working smoke alarms. The smoke alarms should be tested monthly, and replaced at the direction of the manufacturer. If you don’t have working smoke detectors, contact your local fire department to find out about their smoke detector program.
