Since the beginning of media, books, movies and TV shows about police work have been a massive hit, however, these often don’t portray how actual work is done. Laclede County Sheriff David Millsap says there are several procedures that must be followed, such as getting a search warrant, which may take several hours.

Another procedure that takes longer than many expect is evidence processing. Sheriff Millsap says, except in urgent cases, it could take months.

Millsap added the main focus for him and his deputies on these major crimes cases is to “slow down” to guarantee no mistakes are made.
