An Illinois man who has an extensive history of preying on the elderly in Missouri and other states has been charged in Laclede County. Lebanon Police began investigating in November after receiving a call from the son of an 89-year-old woman who had fallen for a home improvement scam. The suspect identified as Paul Girton, is accused of billing the victim $20-thousand-dollars for substandard sealant work on the roof of the victim’s home and cutting down a tree. The woman called her son after writing Girton a check for $8-thousand-dollars, and he called the police. Girton is charged with financial exploitation of an elderly person and a warrant has been issued for his arrest.
