Illicit Drug Mixture causes death and amputation
The DEA has issued a warning to the public about a sharp increase in the trafficking of fentanyl mixed with xylazine. The two drugs mixed together is being attributed to many fatal overdoses, and it’s happening right here in the Missouri Ozarks. Xylazine is not an opioid, it’s a tranquilizer used by animal doctors. Sergeant Bobby Kile with the Lake Area Narcotics Enforcement Group said the xylazine/fentanyl mixture places a user at a higher risk of fatal drug poisoning…
Sergeant Kile said he doesn’t think the drug combination is new…..
The fentanyl mixed with zylazine is sometimes pressed into a tablet form and can be mistaken for another drug…
The counterfeit pills generally will not have a coating on them. The DEA Laboratory System is reporting that in 2022 approximately 23% of fentanyl powder and 7% of fentanyl pills seized by the DEA contained xylazine. Another side effect of using drug mixtures that contain xylazine is if used by injection people can develop severe wounds including necrosis which may lead to amputation.
