The Missouri House of Representatives has passed the governor’s request for a state worker pay increase. The plan, which is headed to the Senate, comes as the state deals with about seven-thousand open positions. It includes an 8.7-percent pay increase and a two-dollar-per-hour bump in pay for group care employees working nights and weekends. House Budget Committee Chairman Cody Smith is the bill sponsor.

St. Louis State Representative Peter Merideth, a Democrat, supports the pay increase proposal but says Missouri will still fall behind private industries.
The next stop for the legislation is the Missouri Senate.
