House Passes Open Enrollment , Moves To Senate

The Missouri House of Representatives has passed open enrollment. It’s sponsored by Sedalia Republican Brad Pollitt, who wants to let K-12 public schools decide if they want to allow students from neighboring districts to enroll in their district. On the House Floor, Kansas City Democrat Maggie Nurrenbern says this legislation will “devastate rural communities.” If it becomes state law, transfers can begin as soon as next school year. The bill passed on an 86-73 vote and now heads to the state Senate for consideration.
