A Lebanon Police Officer who was patrolling a car lot on Elm Street due to reports of thefts and vehicles being tampered with arrested a homeless man who was caught in the act of attempting to steal a car. According to the report, the officer found 22-year-old Austin Elliott sitting in the seat of a vehicle with a screwdriver in his hand and parts of the ignition in his lap. Elliott told the officer that it was his friend’s vehicle and that she had lost her keys, but later told him that he didn’t know the owner, and was trying to hot wire the car. Elliott was arrested and is charged with property damage. His bond was set at $ 25 thousand cash or surety. His arraignment is set for Wednesday.
