Health professionals are reminding residents to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids
As the current heat wave continues in Missouri, health professionals are reminding residents to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids. The U. S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine recommends that men should drink about 15-and-a-half cups of fluids every day and women should consume about 11.5 cups of fluids.
About 20% of daily fluid intake usually comes from food and the rest from drinks. Local Missouri University Extension Service specialist Cecelia Kimmel says having water handy to sip throughout the day is an easy way to stay hydrated.
If you do any activity that makes you sweat, you need to drink extra water to cover the fluid loss. It’s important to drink water before, during and after a workout.
Hot or humid weather can make you sweat and requires additional fluid as well.
