Health Department Board Gets Update on Legislation
The Laclede County Health Department Board of Trustees were given an update on legislation that could reduce local health departments’ authority during their Thursday night meeting. Health Department Administrator, Charla Baker, says health departments in Missouri come under attack during every legislative session, but the COVID pandemic has exacerbated the issue during this legislative session…………
Baker says it would be a mistake putting serious health issues and decisions in the hands of city councils, county commissions, and other governmental bodies who have no background or experience in health-related fields.
Baker also provided the board with an update on filings for the April General Municipal Election. Three Health Board seats are up for election in April, and 5 candidates filed for those positions………..
This will be the first time in at least the last six years the board has had an election for available seats.
