Hartville man sentenced to prison for DWI death

A Mansfield man accused of Driving While Intoxicated and causing the death of a Fire Fighter from Hartville has been sentenced to prison. On Wednesday, 22 year old Kody Skaggs was sentenced to 14 years in prison in connection with a vehicle crash that killed 31 year old Justin Sanders and injured 39 year old Michael Bryson of Hartville. Skaggs was driving a pickup on Business Route 60, when he hit the pickup that was parked roadside, killing the passenger and injuring the driver. Skaggs pleaded guilty in October 2023. He was also sentenced to 10 years in prison for DWI causing serious injuries to emergency services personnel, to run concurrent with the other charge. In November, Sanders parents were awarded money during a wrongful death lawsuit and those funds were to be used for hospital and funeral expenses.
