Missouri’s next state budget year begins in July and Governor Mike Parson has until the end of this month to decide on the legislature’s 49-billion-dollar budget proposal. Department of Mental Health Director Valerie Huhn says one proposed budget item aims to restore competency in St. Louis city, as well as St. Louis, Jackson, Greene, and Clay County jails.

The department’s proposed budget would also designate 232-million-dollars to boost pay for workers caring for the developmentally disabled and 300-million
to build a psychiatric hospital in Kansas City.
