Ft. Leonard Wood will host a public Memorial Day Ceremony Monday afternoon at one o’clock. The ceremony will include remarks by Maneuver Support Center of Excellence (MSCoE) and Ft. Leonard Wood Commanding General, Major General Christopher Beck. As a reminder to people who will be participating in the Memorial Day event, cemetery parking is limited to those with disabled license plates and placards. Shuttle service will be provided to all other attendees from the gravel lot on Polla Road beginning at 11 AM. Signs will be posted. Originally called Decoration Day, Memorial Day was established as a day for Americans to honor those killed during the Civil War. After World War I Memorial Day was expanded to honor those who have died in all American wars. Memorial Day was declared a national holiday in 1971 and is observed on the last Monday in May, but formerly was observed on the fixed date of May 31st.
